Eco homes around Australia open their doors to the public this Sunday 11 September for Sustainable House Day. People can nosy around and check out sustainable features to get ideas for their own homes. I’ve shortlisted the homes I’m most keen to see this year.

Walking up the stairs in my Sydney house-sit, some old copies of Conde Nast Traveller in a stack of magazines caught my eye.
A copy of Conde Nast had prompted my move to Melbourne, Australia almost exactly 3 years ago. For some reason I had a feeling that very edition would be in the pile. I scanned the dates.
Mel is an amazing, fun free spirit from New York who I met when I lived at Bondi beach. I was amazed at her drive and achievements at such a young age. She had three websites and was feeling into becoming a coach in her early twenties! She’s also super spiritual. I once said she has the soul of a 100 year old monk. Oh, and she’s also hilarious!

Every year Sydney lights up with colours for Vivid, the festival of light, music and ideas. It’s a great way to coax people out of their homes on cold (by Aussie standards) winter nights. The vibrant colours stand out against clear dark night skies.
I missed it last year as I’d migrated to warmer climes in Bali for Sydney winter. I got serious FOMO seeing everyone’s amazing photos. So this year I traipsed round the whole thing enough times to give me blisters and saw EVERYTHING.
Here’s a collection of the best bits of Vivid Sydney 2016 as seen by me.
